Welcoming Claire Victoria Roberts

We are thrilled to welcome composer, vocalist and violinist Claire Victoria Roberts to our Choral Now series with her stunning Emily Dickinson setting for mixed, unaccompanied vocal ensembles, The moon is distant from the sea.

Claire writes:

Composed for the National Youth Choir’s Fellowship Ensemble, The moon is distant from the sea contrasts delicate three-part harmony sung by solo female voices with broader choral textures, moving between fragile and intimate passages and more richly scored ones. This is what I imagined when reading Emily Dickinson’s The moon is distant from the sea – the way human connection can be subtle and nuanced, while also representing something vast and encompassing, just as the movement of the tides expresses the subtlest feelings of attraction in Dickinson’s exquisite love poem.’
