About Stainer & Bell
Founded in 1907, Stainer & Bell is a traditional music publisher with a progressive outlook and a dedicated, forward-looking staff. We are well known for our early twentieth-century works by esteemed composers including Holst, Howells, Stanford and Vaughan Williams, the basis of an important catalogue garnered from the rich harvest of British choral, orchestral and chamber music spanning three centuries. We are also internationally recognized for our distinguished collected editions and contemporary hymnody, and for keenly promoting and supporting a new and diverse generation of composers writing for today and for tomorrow.
The successful applicant for the role of Publishing and Royalties Assistant will take responsibility for a number of areas in our busy editorial office. We are looking for someone to join a small, highly focussed team committed to detail, accuracy and excellence in a wide range of publishing, library and administrative duties connected with digital and printed classical sheet music.
The role will include the following tasks:
- Responsibility for maintaining our Archive Library
- Archival research, liaising with customers, providing quotations, and producing print-on-demand titles from our extensive collection
- Scanning and editing existing sheet music titles to create new digital masters for publication
- Updating internal records systems with new and reprinted publications
- Proofing of music, editorial text and royalty data
- General administrative duties to support the editorial and copyright departments as required
Musical literacy (in terms of notation and knowledge of the repertoire), a firm command of English language and usage, strong numeracy skills and proficiency in Word and Excel will be essential for this position. The chosen candidate will also have a well-organized and flexible approach, including the ability to manage several projects and priorities concurrently. A familiarity with PDF-creation and image-editing software would be an advantage, as would an understanding of copyright.
