Autumn Edition 2017

SubscribeAs the ‘war to end all wars’ enters its fourth year, we look at a nurse, who, after her death, gave her name to railway wagons. The works of two wartime soldier poets (Charles Hamilton Sorley and Joseph Courtney) are also featured. In a lighter vein, we print a few more entries to our limerick competition inspired by Florence Foster Jenkins. Several varieties of cake, washed down with Pimms prepare us for mulled wine and some Christmas goodies.

‘Eat, drink and love, the rest’s not worth a fillip’ (Lord Byron).
