Knowles, Brian R: Ring Out Wild Bells from In Memoriam (SATB)
SATB and Piano or Organ
These words from ‘In Memoriam’, by Alfred Lord Tennyson sound forth a positive welcome to the New Year as well as regret for what has sometimes past. The bells literally burst out from the descending thirds and imitative entries in positive peels of joy. The verbal warning to ‘Ring out the want, the care, is matched by some momentary dissonance before returning to sheer delight.
