Introduction by Robert Bruce
William Boyce used Lyra Britannica as a repository for his small-scale secular vocal works and within each of the six books gathered material that was almost certainly recently composed, none previously published elsewhere. Though the title pages do not say so explicitly, it may be presumed that most and perhaps all of Boyce’s works in Lyra Britannica were heard at Ranelagh or Vauxhall.
