For soprano and baritone soloists and SATB choir, with two flutes, piccolo, two oboes, cor anglais, two clarinets, clarinet in E flat, bass clarinet, two bassoons, contrabassoon, four horns, three trumpets, three trombones, tuba, timpani, percussion (two players), two harps, organ and strings
A reduced orchestration is also possible: 2 flutes (2nd flute doubling piccolo), 1 oboe, cor anglais, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 3 tumpets, 3 trombones, tuba, timp, perc, harp & strings) using the same material.
In this case the conductor should direct the players to play the cues for the missing instruments which are written into their parts.
- In the case of 2nd Flute and Cor Anglais the special parts must be used.
- When there is no Bass Clarinet the 2nd Bassoon must play off the special part, except in No. 3 (Scherzo).
The other instruments may be added with corresponding advantage in the following order of importance:
