Jolliffe, Edmund: Christus natus hodie

Trebles (3-part) and piano

As in his other carol for Choral Now, Follow the star, Edmund Jolliffe in Christus natus hodie paints a Christmas scene in his own words: a joyful image of children tucked up in bed on a snowy Christmas Eve while dreaming of Santa’s reindeer hauling a sledge-full of presents through the sky. The bluesy swing idiom perfectly suggests the mood of sleepy expectation, with more lively duets in scat style. Listen out for the echoing church bells of Christmas morning and an exultant chorus for divisi trebles to ‘Celebrate this special day’.
