Ireland, John: Satyricon. Overture for Orchestra

John Ireland was greatly attracted by the ‘general atmosphere of roguery and vagabondage’ pervading the Satyricon. At one time Ireland thought of using Petronius’ text as the basis of a choral work but decided instead to write a concert overture.
