Sebastian Weiss

After studying jazz and classical piano in Hamburg with Dieter Glawischnig, Sebastian Weiss moved to New York in 1997 to study piano at the Manhattan School of Music with Jaki Byard and Mark Soskin as well as composition and arrangement with Ludmila Uhlela and Manny Albam.

The first piano trio productions on which he proved himself as a gifted writer as well as performer (Polaroid Memory and Momentum, featuring Dan Weiss, Bob Bowen,
Miguel Zenon) were released in 2000 and 2001 on the Spanish label and talent hotspot Fresh Sound New Talent and have received wide recognition. Since then he has worked on many productions as writer, performer and producer, including his most recent piano trio CD Resolve with the ensemble Berns/Köbberling/Weiss.

Sebastian has also written for several small ensembles, notably saxophone quartet and jazz septet. He has received several awards and grants for his outstanding musicianship and is currently living in London. Some of the musicians he has performed with are Rodney Jones, Lonnie Plaxico, Eric Harland, Jane Monheit, José James, Heidi Vogel, Gitte Haenning and Miguel Zenon.
