Ronald Corp (1951–2025)

Widely admired as a leading choral conductor, Ronald Corp OBE was also a composer for whom the translation of words into the poetry of sung texts whether biblical, liturgical or secular was a lifelong inspiration.

It is no surprise, therefore, that although important orchestral and chamber scores featured in his varied list of works, music for voices dominated his output. In addition to short choral pieces, his music in the Stainer & Bell catalogue includes And all the trumpets sounded, a forty-minute cantata for baritone, optional children’s chorus, SATB chorus and orchestra, written in the tradition of Britten’s War Requiem, the Missa San Marco for SATB choir with optional organ or orchestra, and A Christmas Mass, for SATB choir and organ or orchestra. Both And all the trumpets sounded and the Missa San Marco have been recorded on the Dutton label.

Ronald Corp was founder and Musical Director of the New London Orchestra, and the New London Children’s Choir. He was also Musical Director of the London Chorus and the Highgate Choral Society. He worked with the BBC Singers, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and the Leipzig Philharmonic Orchestra amongst others.
