Bullen, Richard: The Oxen
From: £3.50
Richard Bullen was born in Bedfordshire in 1984 and currently lives in London. His recent music has often been inspired by specific locations and has explored the performance space as a means of integrating music, theatre and ritual. In 2015 he completed a PhD at the Royal Academy of Music with David Sawer. His works have been performed by the London Symphony Orchestra Chamber Ensemble, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and the London Sinfonietta, and have been broadcast on BBC Radio 3. He has had three works shortlisted for the BASCA British Composer Awards and won an award in 2011. During a residency on the inaugural LSO Soundhub scheme, Richard composed and directed The House of Asteria for acclaimed mezzo soprano Lore Lixenberg, four vertically separated quartets of clarinets and strings, video and the entire building of LSO St Luke’s. In 2016 he was commissioned by Choir & Organ magazine to write a new carol for the choir of St Paul’s Cathedral. The carol, The Oxen is now published by Stainer & Bell.
