Richard Allain

Acclaimed for his versatility and skill in adapting his musical language to many genres, Richard Allain is a composer of chamber, orchestral and vocal pieces, and a catalogue of choral music that is performed internationally. His commitment to music education, his work as a teacher and his cantatas for young people are especially admired. Throughout his career he has also written Christmas carols, to which It sifts from leaden sieves adds a fresh, complementary seasonal focus. Recent projects include a collaboration with the BBC Concert Orchestra and Stephen Fry, A Christmas Carol, and Illuminare for organ, premiered by Jonathan Stamp at Westminster Cathedral. A noted arranger, Richard Allain is the composer of 24 piano accompaniments for Neil Mackay’s A Tuneful Introduction to the Third Position for Violin (H419).
