Philip Lancaster (b.1977)

Philip LancasterPhilip Lancaster is emerging as a composer of profound and original voice. He finds particular inspiration in literature, in song, instrumental and chamber music. Philip’s works have been performed at festivals and venues around the country. A major chamber oratorio, War Passion, was premièred at the Three Choirs Festival in 2016. Philip enjoys collaborating with poets and performers, with recent works including Miriam’s Exile, the first of an intended series of canticles written with poet Euan Tait, and a song cycle to poems commissioned from John Greening, Fallen.

Philip is also a singer, writer, and a textual and critical scholar specialising in 20th-century British music and poetry. He is a leading authority on the works of Ivor Gurney, whose music he has edited and orchestrated for performance, broadcast and recording, and whose complete poetry he is co-editing with Tim Kendall for publication by Oxford University Press.
