Jenny Gould
Jenny is a composer, songwriter, pianist, singer and musical director. She has spent much of her career working with children’s voices, as a composer, songwriting workshop leader, musical director and accompanist. Songs of Imaginings was borne out of this work with the renowned Finchley Children’s Music Group, for whom the collection was written.
During the current ‘work from home’ situation, Jenny has been very lucky to have been commissioned by music education company HMDT Music as Composer/Music Director for their newest piece. Jina and the STEM Sisters, for which she has written, arranged and recorded the music, forms part of a combined science and arts project promoting STEM subjects for girls and women, and the show tells the often untold stories of amazing STEM women in history, through music, theatre and puppetry. Involving professional singers and instrumentalists as well as a children’s chorus, the show will be streamed for one month from 15 March ’21 through the HMDT Music website.
Other significant works for young voices include two children’s operas for Opera Brava: Prince Caspian (words and music) and The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe (6 songs, words and music, contributed to a collaborative piece). Both these productions, written for a combination of children’s voices alongside professional adult opera singers, have toured extensively round the UK since 2010.
Jenny has also self-published a children’s musical, The Hunt for William Shakespeare, with children’s author Roy Apps, and has co-created numerous original songs with children around the country in songwriting projects for HMDT Music, including most recently the new opera commemorating World War One, Trench Brothers.
