Welsh-born Claire Victoria Roberts is a composer, vocalist and violinist whose music blurs boundaries between genres, drawing upon diverse influences of Celtic fiddle music, lyrical jazz and post-minimalist classical sounds.
Her works have been performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Psappha, cellist Oliver Coates, OPRA Cymru, the Uproar ensemble, Music Theatre Wales, the Solem Quartet, the National Youth Choir, the National Youth Folk Ensemble and the Carice Singers. As violinist and improvising vocalist she has collaborated with the Camden Symphony Orchestra, the Sherman Theatre, New Voices, the Morley Arts Festival and the Aberystwyth Arts Festival. Her compositions have been commissioned by the Cheltenham Festival, the Presteigne Festival, MusicFest and the Wigmore Hall.
Claire’s music has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Radio Wales and Radio Cymru. She was winner of the 2017 William Mathias Composition Prize, the 2019 Francis Chagrin Award, and the 2022 Welsh Music Guild’s Young Composer Award, and recipient of a RPS Composition Prize 2019–2020 and a 2021 Jerwood Arts composer award.
